Safety
Electricity
is a great convenience
if handled properly. All customers are advised to observe
safety precautions while handling electrical gadgets. Parents and wards have the onus of
protecting children against any hazard posed by electricity. This Section deals with some
of the do's and don'ts to be observed while handling electric power.
Safety in Use
Do's :
Always use ISI
approved quality materials.
- Install ECLB to avoid
electrical shock.
- Always call electrician
for repair and checking.
- Get the wiring done by
an approved Government Licensed Electrical Contractor.
- Always ensure that the
plug socket is not in reach of children.
- Always ensure the plug
socket to avoid loose contact and consequently heating and melting.
- Use only 3-pin socket.
- Get the installation
checked for proper earthing and insulation.
- Cover bare portions of
electrical connections with insulation tape.
- Use rubber gloves and
rubber mat while working on electrical equipment.
- Use insulated
cutting-pliers and line tester for handling electrical wire and equipment.
What is
Fuse
The
fuse is very important protective device. The main principle of opearation is that a
fusible element melts after carrying a current of sufficient magnitude and thus
disconnects the circuit. The fuse is required to protect the circuit and the appliances in
case of over loads and short-circuits.
- Report the leakage
of current to relevant jurisdictional KPTCL Service Station.
- Report slanting of
poles, sagging and slapping of conductors to KPTCL Service Station.
- Eliminate dampness
/water leakage near electrical wiring or equipment.
- Educate others about
safe usage of electricity.
- If you observe snapped
conductor or loose connection, arcing in lines/transformers or heating of energy meter
report to KPTCL Service Stations.
- If you observe leakage
current in your premises, switch off mains and arrange to get the defect rectified through
licensed electrical contractor.
- Before working
or/replacing any lamp/fan/equipment, ensure that supply is switched off.
- Use correct size fuse
wires.
- Turn your face away
whenever arc over occurs.
- Switch off supply
whenever you see fire near electrical equipment.
Accidents
In case of person coming in contact with electricity
- Do not touch him.
- Switch off the main supply.
- Insulate yourself with the surroundings and move the person away
from the electrical contact.
- Give him first aid.
- Call for the doctor.
- Inform the relevant jurisdictional KPTCL Service Station.
